MONTANA
STEEP, DEEP & EAT
JAN. 13,14 & 15, 2024
Our Montana powder cat experience is a partnership with our good friends at Great Northern Powder Guides. We have teamed up with them and crafted a unique experience that is exclusive to World Alpine Expeditions.

This tour is limited to a group size of 10 skiers and riders. You should schedule to arrive in Whitefish on Friday, January 12th. We recommend Grouse Mountain Lodge for your overnight before your Expedition begins. There is a direct link below for Grouse Mountain.
Here is the schedule for the weekend....

January 12: arrive Whitefish, MT
January 13:
8:00am - Meet at GNPG Base Camp in Olney, MT by 8:00am. Day 1 will include a brief meeting at basecamp with an overview of safety, equipment and itinerary.
9:00am - Once everyone is ready we will load our personal Piston Bully 600 and head up to the 20,000+ acres of private access terrain that will be your playground for the next three days. The first stop along the way will be for avalanche beacon training and rules followed by your first descent. The morning will pack in run after run of GNPG's private POW stash in the Steep and Deep Stillwater wilderness.
Noonish - Once we burn some calories we will stop by our 30' Wilderness Yurt (that will be your home for the next two nights) for lunch. After lunch we will rip POW until your legs fall off. Our goal is between 12-14,000 Vert. per day.
4:30ish - Lose the boots at the Yurt and settle in for your first chef prepared wine dinner. Night one will feature Oregon Wine and cuisine, prepared by your host/chef, Paul Tollefson (we forgot to mention that he is a classically trained chef and former wine importer). The rest of the evening will be spent enjoying old war stories about mountains conquered followed by a great night's sleep in the quiet of the Stillwater Wilderness.

9:00 - 4:30 - Rip POW, eat lunch, Rip POW back to Yurt...
5:00pm - bedtime Lose the boots, settle in and get ready for a taste of Italy. Tonight's dinner will be a tour of the wines of Italy paired with a traditional, Mountain Italian dinner. Paul brings his love of everything Italian with his experience of 12 years of direct importing Italian Wines, skiing the Italian Alps and Dolomites and it's food to your evening table. With any luck he might even break out his Mandolin. Get ready to sleep on a full belly.

THINGS TO KNOW AND THINGS TO PACK
-
Aside from your usual backcountry ski/snowboard gear and clothing, you can bring a small pack onboard with items like: dry socks, extra gloves, backup goggles, camera, hand and toe warmers, snow boots, overnight bag for two-nights stay, personal snacks (there will be snacks available).
-
We recommend bringing skis that are at least 98mm under foot, preferably with some rocker. Snowboards also need to have rocker in them as this promotes a proper float in the powder.
-
Powder skis and a limited number of snowboards are available for rent at $40 per day.
-
YOU NEED TO BE A COMPETENT ALL MOUNTAIN SKIER/RIDER, RECOGNIZING THAT ALL OF OUR TERRAIN IS UNGROOMED, OFF-PISTE AND THAT OUR GOAL IS TO GET YOU IN THE DEEPEST UNTRACKED POWDER AVAILABLE
-
The two story wilderness lodge has a great kitchen, living space, game area, big screen TV and bunk room that accomodates up to 14. Complete with Montana's most luxurious heated outhouse.
-
We recommend Grouse Mountain Lodge for your initial night stay. They have a shuttle from FCA to the hotel that will pick passengers up upon arrival. Follow this link for reservations: GROUSE MOUNTAIN LODGE
-
Travel from Grouse Mountain Lodge to GNPG Base Camp departs at 7am sharp.
-
Shuttle to Airport on January 15th will arrive at FCA airport by 5pm
